Elaine Miles (Cayuse/NezPerce) Actress. Elaine is a 1/4 Cayuse & Nez Perce and enrolled on the Umatilla Reservation consisting of the Cayuse, Walla Walla, and Umatilla located in northeastern Oregon. Elaine is best known for her role as Marilyn Whirlwind on the Emmy winning award show Northern Exposure where she was a regular all six seasons. She is an award winning actress recognized by First Americans in the Arts for her role as Marilyn in '92, '94, & '95. In November of 2001, she received the Eagle Spirit Award from the American Indian Film Institute. She has done seven movies: Skins (2001), Business of Fancy Dancing (2001), Tortilla Heaven (1999), Smoke Signals (1997), Scattering Dad (1997), Pandora's Clock (1995), Mad Love (1994). She has worked in Canada on CBC's half hour series, "The Rez" in 1997, co-starring as the medicine woman, Etta. She has done numerous public service announcements for radio and television on topics such as HIV/Aids, Child abuse, and diabetes. Her Diabetes Exercise Video won an award at the American Indian Film Festival for best PSA. She has appeared on the cover of Aboriginal Voices, Indian Artist, Radiance, and on the cover of Macy's Christmas Catalog.
