Hattie Kauffman (Nez Perce) National Correspondent, THE EARLY SHOW, CBS News. Hattie Kauffman was named national correspondent for CBS News' THE EARLY SHOW in November 1999. Prior to that, she served as a senior consumer correspondent for "This Morning" (1990-99). Kauffman has also contributed to 48 HOURS, the CBS EVENING NEWS, and CBS Radio News. An Emmy Award-winning reporter, Kauffman has covered a variety of subjects from breaking news to celebrity profiles to features on the people and places that don't often make headlines. She has covered many stories of the last decade including the Oklahoma City bombing, the death of John F. Kennedy Jr. and the saga of Elian Gonzales. Prior to joining, CBS News, Kauffman was a special correspondent for "Good Morning America" (1987-90). While covering an air disaster for ABC News in 1999, Kauffman unknowingly made broadcast history. She is a member of the Nez Perce Tribe, and when her report aired, she became the first Native American journalist to file a report on a national news broadcast. She was a reporter and anchor at KING-TV Seattle (1981-87) where she earned four Emmy Awards for her work. Kauffman recieved a BS degree from the University of Minnesota, where she also attended the Graduate School of Journalism under a WCCO-TV Minorities in Broadcasting scholarship. Her on-air broadcasting career began on Minneapolis radio while she attended college. Kauffman lives in Los Angeles. |
